City officials urged residents to contact the city clerk-treasurer to arrange street oiling for dust control this summer. Steve Stalcup of Linton is set to apply the oil if enough citizens express interest. Final arrangements must be made in the next few days or the plan may be dropped.
Fred Duzan, 34, Steele township, seriously knifed in a Vincennes tavern affray, was reported as doing fairly well at Daviess county hospital. Attacker Charles Sawyer, 35, Plainville driver, is jailed in Vincennes with self defense claimed. Three others faced Vinences city court for public intoxication.

A severe electrical storm struck the Reed and Carl Wilson farm near Elnora last night. A tree was struck and six fine cattle sheltered beneath it were killed.

London July 26. Fourteen persons including two women were injured today when two bombs attributed to the Irish Republican Army exploded in the coat room of the King's Cross station. One man's leg was shattered.
Billy Condra aged about 22 admitted to Judge Frank Gilkison he was guilty of a series of recent house robberies in Washington. He pled guilty to first degree robbery and received a 10 year term in the state reformatory after being arrested for pawned stolen watches. He confessed to thefts at multiple homes on East Walnut street including the John Beadles and Elizabeth Cowney residences, plus the Dan Begley Dora Jackson and Lyons homes, with sums of money and items taken. He also acknowledged prior trouble and a past suspended sentence for an earlier robbery.
The Tri-County Medical Association held its fifth booster meeting at the Winslow Christian church dinner at 6 pm. Members from Daviess, Martin, and Pike counties attended including Drs Fox, Long, Rice, Hayes, Kime, Wadsworth, Blazey, DeMotte, Bowman, Freeman, Miller, McPherson, Bell, McNau, Michaels, Ingalls, Smoot, Lett, and DeTarr. Seven federal inmates escaped from a prison bus after assaulting the driver during transport from Atlanta to Lewisburg Pa. They fled near Thornburn Virginia. Fifteen other prisoners remained aboard as the vehicle continued. Advices from the justice department confirmed the escape location and timeframe.
