Drivers ignore new accident reporting law in Indiana
Indianapolis July 12 Many motorists fail to observe the new accident reporting law that took effect June 7 says State Safety Director Don F Stiver. He warns filing a report is a misdemeanor with up to 100 fine and notes police reports do not meet the law. Last week only about 200 reports were received and officials offer aid in completing forms. The law requires drivers involved in injuries deaths or property damage over 25 to report within 24 hours to the Department of Public Safety. Reports are privileged information not usable in court unless malice or bad faith can be proven. Marion county motorists are particularly lax in sending forms.
