United States railroad labor board urged managers and employers in Chicago to meet and negotiate a sensible resolution to wage reductions. The board emphasized direct talks to avert annulling agreements and reduce tensions among workers and executives.

President Wilson rejected Attorney General Palmer’s recommendation to commute Eugene V. Debs ten-year espionage sentence to expiration next February. Debs, a famed five-time presidential candidate, is at Atlanta Federal Penitentiary and becomes parole eligible in 1922 if good behavior continues.
About 1,600 participants attended a fox drive north of Washington in Steele Township. One fox was captured and sold for $20.40 while five others escaped through the lines. proceeds benefited the Daviess County Hospital Fund totaling six foxes. Fox pelts valued at $22 were noted.
