The commissioners plan to buy a new car to be used by highway superintendent George Emmerling. Bids will be opened January 14 at 2 with trade-in options, and the salary for the highway department head is set at 1800 annually. The annual county auditor report was received and approved before adjourning to January 14.
Ellen D Grube wife of Jobbyn Grube of Veale township died this morning at her home. The body was returned to Gill Funeral Home and will be taken to the family home for viewing before burial. Surviving are four sons and two daughters including Curt Grube and Harry Grube, with Charles, John, Catherine among others. Funeral details pending arrival of children from Indianapolis.
Statehouse sources say lawmakers convene at 10 A M to debate repealing the truck weight measure. About $600,000 collected under the law is tied up in escrow pending litigation over constitutionality. Funds already distributed to cities, counties, and general and highway funds. Democratic senators push revisions to election statutes including central counting, but no decision is reached.

The Boy Scouts of Daviess County announce a court of honor Thursday night at the courthouse. The court of review begins at 7 pm, followed by the court of honor. Troop 70 Scouts meet at 6 pm to hold their regular meeting until 7 pm. J N Barber Scoutmaster.
Raymond Gee files in circuit court a suit for 200 damages stemming from a December 14 automobile collision near Elnora. Defendants named are Charles L. Elkins and Harry Kohlman.
Firemen were called at noon to the west end where a fire spread through the Corcoran Factory lot. No damages were reported.
Milton H. Fitzgerald and Joseph B. Wilkins and Drew R. Smith, transients, were sent to the Pendleton reformatory after pleading guilty to vehicle theft charges. Each received a sentence of one to ten years.
The New York market rose after President Roosevelt's message to Congress. Active issues gained one to four points at highs as volume and advances increased. Crucible Steel rose four, Bethlehem Steel three, U S and Youngstown two each, rails up about two. Utilities posted gains though lagging the market.

The annual report of County Recorder Oral McCracken shows 717 deeds recorded for city and rural property, 2,157 mortgages totaling 1,072,242 dollars. Mortgages satisfied reach 903,990 dollars across 1,516 cases. Oil land gas leases 257 and old age certificates 308, with miscellaneous deeds 679 and sheriff and auditor deeds 35 and 3 respectively.
The Indiana state supreme court granted a stay of execution for Orell E. Easter until June 3. The stay followed a new appeal to the court after the January 13 murder sentence for the killing of Ray Dickson, an Indiana state policeman.
The first fox drive of the winter will be staged Saturday January 7 starting at 8 am. Proceeds go to a charitable cause. Sponsors have not decided the matter. Route lines and captains are listed with state roads and local roads. Last year five red foxes were captured in the same area.
