Charles Enkoff faces three counts including provocation intoxication and assault in Montgomery. Thomas Fisher Aber marshal also to be tried Thursday on assault and battery charges arising from a dance fight early Tuesday after a Monday night dispute. Both cases stem from a Monday Montgomery dance row.
Indianapolis Feb 22 William Francis Fox Jr longtime basketball columnist for the Indianapolis News names Muncie Central as the Diana high school team he believes will win the annual tournament. His top ten includes Martinsville Emerson Gary Columbus Franklin Vincennes Anderson Washa East Chicago Lokapsport Bedford with several teams he has yet to watch.
Three men from Golite were arrested near Martinsville after robbing a Bedford resident of 1167 dollars. Ray Jefferies 18 Ray Davis 20 and Leonard Jeffries 30 drove a taxi to Indianapolis before being captured following a general alarm. The victim was injured but survived the encounter.
Mason Palmer aged 80 a lifelong Washington and Daviess county resident died at his Northeast Third Street home after a heart disease. He was born November 22 1847 and married June 1 1879. Survived by Blanche his widow and seven children with many relatives. He was a member of Ebenzer Methodist Church and Home Guards and worked thirty three years for Hatfield and Palmer. Arrangements pending.
Vincennes February 22 investigation into the 150000 fire at J C Penney company store under way. Police Chief Thomas marks a shakeup in the Vincennes mercantile establishment as fire officials say the blaze burned at least an hour and a half before discovery at 5 a m. Mrs Ellen Herrin living near the store reported the fire and firemen were awakened by Patrolman William Marsh after the telephone operator could not rouse them. The blaze reached the building rapidly with fire walls keeping flames from adjoining structures.
Mrs. Robert Johnson aged thirty two died this afternoon in Seiad from pneumonia after a week of illness. She was born in Washington and lived there most of her life. Survived by husband, two children, her mother Mrs Lucy Mooney, and four brothers. Funeral at St Simon's Catholic Church with burial in St John’s Cemetery. date not announced. Mrs Mooney and Mrs Johnson’s brothers in Baltimore, Washington, and Indianapolis noted as survivors.
A car traveling toward a street crossing collided with a train at a crossing near Washington. Emery Byrd suffered a left wrist injury from broken glass and was dressed at a garage and then treated at the county hospital after being taken from the wreckage. His father, Theta Byrd, residing west of the city, reported that Big Four gasoline rain may have contributed to the accident as the vehicle braked before the collision.
Today's Kiwanis gathering drew a large crowd and welcomed new member Russel Isenogle. The playlet The Truth for One Day was staged with cast Ruth Payne Elizabeth New Catherine Holland Alice Creager Mildred Ward and Helen Hayes, assisted by Doris Beck. Next meeting set for Tuesday at 6 30 p.m. at Wesley Memorial church with guest ex president Chambers of Evansport attending.
Washington today observed the birthday of George Washington, with banks and post office open but mail dispatch affected. Schools were dismissed and fitting exercises held in commemoration. Washington would have been 196 years old.
Five members of a family including a father and four children perished when a large residence burned. The tragedy occurred while they slept on the top floor, their bodies described as burned almost beyond recognition in Pittsburgh today.
The Rev N C Carpenter pastor of First Church in this city was surprised when the Loyal Sons Bible class presented a diamond ring with Knights of Pythias insignia. W G White head of the class led the presentation. Carpenter has taught the class since arriving months ago and leaves next week for Broadway Christian church Princeton Indiana. A new 77000 church was completed at Price ton and Carpenter will lead the expanded program while lecturing on the Chautauqua platform.
Local police sought a light coupe with Indiana plate 120-033 occupied by two young men who robbed a Worthington business of $200 in cash yesterday afternoon. A third word was received here about one was taken into custody.
Ottawa Illinois February 22 A jury to try Hiram Reed son of a wealthy Jossville farmer on charges of dynamiting a school house with intent to kill his sweetheart teacher Miss Lola Bradford was chosen here today. John Engle was accepted by both sides twenty minutes after court opened completing the third panel of which three members were tentatively accepted yesterday. Court adjourned until tomorrow to permit defense counsel to prepare briefs and answers.
In Mexico on Feb 22 a demonstrat ion along the Renida Juarez drew a crowd over thousands. Fireworks exploded and insults aimed at Americans accompanied mingled vivas for Nicaraguan rebel Sandino. The event, though described as harmless, saw some celebrants invade homes and dining rooms, triggering denunciations from Americans.
A district library meeting will be held at the Washington Public Library on March 17. Librarians and board members from fourteen libraries will attend the meeting.

Two masked gunmen held up the Ideal Loan and Jewelry Company in Cincinnati today, securing about 45000 dollars in gems. They bound two clerks before escaping, witnesses said. Police launched a search for the suspects.
Indianapolis Feb 22 Arthur L Gilliam announced that the Ku Klux Klan is dead in Indiana but his group the Knights of the Greater Forest will persist in challenging the order. He said the suit will continue as long as the state charter remains valid despite imperial wizard Hiram W Boane declaring the Klan dead and forming the Knights of the Great Forest.
At the regular weekly meeting in Liverpool the Odd Fellows, M. S. Boyd received a veteran's jewel and year insignia for fifty years of membership. John A. Dorsey, noble grand, presented the award with thanks.

Lloyd O Hill Indiana attorney for D C Stephenson life prisoner today filed to have Stephenson examined by a lunacy commission. Hill said neither he nor Stephenson object, claiming Stephenson may be paranoid or demential and that Dr Gaughey’s testimony about Stephenson’s mental state was dubious. The petition seeks relief from incarceration and cites a desire for clarity in the case.
The City of Washington won a verdict for George Ross in a back wages overtime case heard last night. The city begins immediate trial of Levi F Potts and Mary Potts suing over street conditions near their home with ten witnesses already heard for the plaintiffs and more to come this afternoon. The defense has several witnesses ready and lawyers expect a late finish, possibly a verdict by tomorrow.
West Baden Ind Feb 22 Walter W le of Michigan City and Ledlie C Shintnomel of Shelbyville were nominated today for president of the new Indiana district of Rotary International at its annual state dinner in West Baden. Election to be held late this afternoon. Gary Terre Haute and Lafayette are candidates for 1929.
Indianapolis reports President Coolidge risks losing his 175 acre Pulaski county onion farm due to past due mortgage. Luke W. Duffy, of the farm federation, deeded the property to Coolidge for an unrendered service to agriculture. Aetna Life Insurance filed suit in Pulaski county court to foreclose.
A farmer study hall at St Simon school for boys drew 47 attendees with agriculture instructor Joseph Larkin leading talks on improving dairy feed, profits, and soil tests. Pupils Cliffe Shanks Austin Wagoner Wik Hunter and E B Dougherty helped with soybean growth and curing methods. soil tests were offered free by Graham Farms to boost Daviess County agriculture.
Port Darwin February 22 Captain Bert Hinkler landed in a small Avro completing a London to Australia flight in fifteen days. He beat the 1919 London to Australia record of 28 days set by Sir Keith and Sir Ross Smith. The flight was the longest single flight by a single pilot in 11,000 miles plus.
