West of the city the Rotary Club met at Dewey's restaurant to view tree pictures. Harold Ney, superintendent of the nursery, said three million trees will be shipped this March to forestry areas nationwide. John Murray photographed the event. John Hastings led the program.
Earl Abel, 34, a Shoals native, was killed by cyanide gas fumes used to fumigate two Indianapolis apartments. His wife also died in the same manner. Surviving Abel are his mother, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Edward Q McClain were held Wednesday at 2 o clock at the Veale Baptist Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Burl Eads and Rev. Wm R Seat had charge of the services. Local Masons conducted ritual at the grave.
Banks of Washington announce closure on Saturday with details pending. Officials say operations will pause for a scheduled shutdown while employees address administrative matters.
Firemen were called at 10 o clock to 108 West Main Street where sparks set fire to the roof causing minor damage to Colbert property.

Washington February 20 Sidney Hillman associate defense director told the house judiciary committee that Henry Ford is a violator and should lose defense contracts to compliant contractors. He said contracts should go to law violators only if manuals essential to defense cannot be obtained elsewhere.
Gen George C Marshall told the Senate military affairs committee that reinforcements are being rushed to the Pacific due to seriousness of the Far East crisis. He noted Britain is taking a similar step and discussed potential moves southward in the Orient.
On day four of the war bill debate the foreign relations committee member Reyn said he backs the measure only if it does not edge the nation toward war. Wheeler of Montana vowed continued opposition and urged the public to pressure the president, warning against sending troops abroad without broad support.
A weather bulletin reports a cold wave extending beyond earlier forecasts across Indiana. Residents are warned of continued low temperatures and potential extended icy conditions into the coming days.
Fire of undetermined origin swept the Morris 5 and 10 building on Princeton’s public square causing about 37 000 in damage. Firefighters from nearby towns helped confine the blaze to the three story Morris store owned by the Devin heirs with smoke and water damage to adjacent stock and buildings.

Burrai met County Clerk Roscoe E Myers at 9 a m to prepare the venire listing names across Barr Madison and Washington townships including Bingg Reeves Wilce Brewer Hamerickhouse Miller Chestnut and others.

St Vincent de Paul fife and drum corps and St Vincent school band will provide music for the South Central Catholic grade school basketball finals at St Marys gym. The program opens with Old Cathedral Vincennes vs St Marys Washington at 3 pm, then St Vincent de Paul Bedford vs Sacred Heart Vincennes at 4. Friday hosts St Johns LaGrange vs St Johns Vincennes and St Joseph Jasper vs St Vincent Vincennes. Winners meet Saturday. finals Sunday at 1:30 pm.
Margaret E. Harper aged 82 died at the home of Willon Serger in Odon Indiana on February 20 after an illness of two years. Cause listed as old age and apathy or decline with many details garbled. Born August to Samuel and Sarah Byrd, Bedford Indiana, she was a member of the Odon Christian Church and was the last of her family. Burial arrangements announced at chapel.
