It was announced this afternoon that all Washington drug stores will remain open on Sundays starting tomorrow and will also stay open on Thursday afternoons. The change expands weekend and Thursday service for shoppers.
Grand jury to meet Monday as part of the Earl Way shooting case. Jury commissioners held sessions this morning and added ten names to the grand jury list and outlined petit jury members from Washington Madison Elmore and Steele counties.
Samuel Hedrick 83 died yesterday at the county farm. Funeral services are set for Sunday afternoon at Keller Mortuary with burial in Oak cemetery. The son of the late generation and a longtime resident, family requests calls for respect from friends.
Official weather observers recorded a low of 3 degrees for the year with the day’s high near 28 degrees. Temperatures were reported by C.Feag alls and other observers.

Martha E Hooper Ellis, 74, widow of Samuel J. Ellis, died at her daughter Mary Ann Warren’s home near Shoals on US 50. Born Irene Texas May 30 1872, she leaves a daughter eight grandchildren two great grandchildren and siblings. Funeral at Shoals Christian Church Monday at 1 30 p m with burial in Goodwill Cemetery Loogootee.
The Beef Calf enrollment list originally omitted members Wikna Aun Stucke head Dean Stuckey with 1 head Stuckey 1 head Harold W Allison 1 head are now acknowledged and recorded. The correction adds the missing names and headcount to the club roster.
This morning six Wy troops overran city offices for two hours from 10 to 12 am. Patrols enforced traffic rules, issued fines from 60 to 15 dollars for punch board violations, while scouts acted as city officials with Don Eubanks as mayor and Robert Hyatt as city attorney. A fire drill with scouts riding a fire truck followed, and police and fire chiefs took temporary command with Troop 70 to 75 represented by named scouts.

Chington Feb 8. A planned inquiry into union racketeering was announced by House labor committee chairman Fred A. Hartley Jr. The committee seeks funds and to send subcommittees into the field while push for new labor laws is paused by complaints from Philadelphia produce merchants who say they face coercion. Hartley said the review will cover all racketeering allegations to aid hearings and possible legislation.
Crews battled a six foot snowbound landscape after a fierce blizzard sweeping Minnesota South Dakota and western Wisconsin. Roads were clogged stalled traffic and plows worked to reopen single lanes as bitter cold returned amid drifting snow.

Leslie Drury 64, long time station operator, died at the local hospital yesterday afternoon at 2 30 after a yearlong illness. Born June 21 1892 to George and Anna C Myers Drury he leaves a wife Mrs Donaldson married Feb 18 1917 a daughter Joy Weaver Indianapolis a granddaughter Diana Weaver and two sisters Blanche Ja RR of St Louis. Funeral services Monday at 2 pm at First Baptist Church with Rev William R Seat in charge. Burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at V L Poindexter Funeral Home.
Chicago police found Lorene Hirschhorn 86 frozen to death in a rear apartment after dogs barked at the scene. Barbara Hirschhorn 74 lay in the snow beside a converted trailer. she is in serious condition at Cook County Hospital. The couple known as The Dubells performed in major circuses and vaudeville, reportedly married at the site decades ago.
Anti-labor measures in the Indiana General Assembly trigger fierce debate between organized labor and Republicans. Bills 48 52 and 240 cover anti-picketing anti closed shop and women’s work hours. Democrats decry the pack as vile and punitive while GOP leaders push for curbs on labor influence. Senator Fleming of Hammond denounces the measures as sabotage of labor progress.
Mrs. Kindred, 82, died this morning at 10:30 at the home of her daughterMrs Reginald McCall 316 N W St after a three week illness. Born November 15 in the Gough family she married James Fulker son who died 85 years ago and later John Kindred who passed in 1929. Survived by one daughter Mrs Reginald Clara McCall two grandchildren and five great grandchildren plus two sons and one daughter deceased. A member of the First Christian church Epsom funeral services pending.
The U S Rubber team will travel to El Nora to face the El Nora Merchants and Farmers on Monday night. A preliminary game starts at 7 p m between El Nora Merchants and Farmers.
Loogootee feb 8 Mrs Catherine E Cunningham 71 died yesterday at 3 20 am at St Vincent s hospital Indianapolis after four days of illness. A former Loogootee resident she moved to Vincennes eight years ago then to Indianapolis about a year ago. She was a member of St Mary s church Loogootee and the Altar Society. Born January 3 1886 she was the daughter of John and Anna Smith. She married Frank Cunningham in 1902 who preceded her in death. Survived by sons Glenn Cunningham Detroit and George Cunningham Indianapolis and daughters Mrs Catherine Telfer Vincennes and Mrs ___ Cunningham Indianapolis. Rosary to be recited at the funeral home 7 30 pm Sunday.

An exchange of protests follows with Jamali Husseini warning of possible civil wars and Jews likening the proposal to a worse version of a prior plan. Also reported are 750 Jewish refugees scheduled for Cyprus internment camps, and 350 more to depart Tuesday. Late returns in the 1947 National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis appeal show growing generosity in Daviess County. Odon Madison Township High School contributed 21.75, coin collectors 18.46, special gifts 185.00, totaling 225.21 under chairman Dearmin. Paul rd of Alfordsville raised 21.10 and 14.50.
