Gardner Dies of Coronary Thrombosis in London
North Carolina native and former governor C Max Gardner, 64, died of a coronary thrombosis at 8:25 a.m. in a hotel shortly before sailing to London. Dr Edward J McCabe and heart specialist Dr Louis F Bishop attended. Gardner's wife and son Ralph were with him. Fred Morrison of Washington, his former law partner, was also present as he prepared to become ambassador.

Eskridge Dies At Home After Illness At 86
Samuel Cicero Eskridge 86 well known Washington resident and retired merchant died at home this morning after a long illness. Born January 29, 1861 in Washington, he was married twice, survived by three children including Samuel Cicero Eskridge and Roy Eskridge of Wheatland, and three grandchildren. A prominent business leader, Eskridge held many civic roles and was the oldest living alumnus of Washington High School. He and partner John T. Neal built a grocery and later a large department store fame and community standing in Washington. He was active in charity and fraternal organizations.
