The Ohio River rises toward a 34 foot crest at Louisville amid renewed rain threats. About 6,000 families evacuated across Kentucky Ohio West Virginia and Tennessee. At least nine deaths and over 1.25 million dollars in property losses reported as Red Cross coordinates aid.
In Washington a push to declare a strict national policy against entangling alliances gains momentum as senators debate neutrality and nonintervention while the war department is reported to have supplied Britain with up to date aircraft components. Senate leaders weigh public release of secret testimony amid probes into aid to Allies and warnings against American involvement.
The January weather statistics show mean maximum 46.4, mean minimum 30.6, and mean 38.5 degrees. The high was 66 on the 3rd, the low 16 on the 23rd. Precipitation totaled 3.65 inches with 0.13 inches on the 30th. four inches of snowfall occurred. There were eight days with at least 0.01 inch precipitation, 11 clear days, 11 partly cloudy days, and 9 cloudy days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Frances Brennan were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 30 at Fireto Methodist church with Rev J Edw Murr officiating. Burial followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer Meredith Ed Bline Harry Cates Chas Connaughton Clarence and Mike Graham.
Gilbert White, the county assessor, announced there will be no real estate reassessment this spring in Daviess County. He noted inquiries about such reassessments and stated that personal property assessments will begin March 1 and end May 15.
The Daviess county eighth grade tournament will be held in the Plainville gymnasium on February 13 15 and 18 with nine teams participating. Gerald Ai will referee the tournament and a trophy will be awarded to the winner. The drawing of the schedule will be announced later.
Jack Hayes son of Mr and Mrs C E Hayes of North Meridian street serves as door keeper at the Indiana House of Representatives in Indianapolis. The appointment came through Representative Homer E Beasley of Washington.
William Young of Olney Michigan was fined one dollar and costs totaling five dollars in justice of peace court after being arrested by state police on Road 50 near Washington for driving without proper clearance rights.
Funeral services for Edward Streeter were held at 10 o clock this morning at the residence with Rev J E Murr and Rev A V Farris in charge. Burial followed in Oak Grove cemetery. Pallbearers listed include Robert Shrum Lindell Shrum Henry H Hobard Denny Bert Streeter Jr and Bert Streeter III.
Word has reached Barr township of the serious illness of Mrs Isaac Bell formerly Edith Davis of Barr township at her home in Port Arthur Texas. Her many friends in Barr township will regret to learn of her illness.
Mr Guy of Chicago announced the reopening of the Marion dance studio at 108 North Fifth Street. Instruction will be given in ballroom dancing.
Townsend clubs will meet at city hall tonight at 7 30 for the election of an advisory board. Public invited.
Reports say peace talks opened with Insurgent General Franco facing pressure from Britain and France to accept a negotiated truce. Del Vayo, Negrin’s foreign minister, appealed for intercession while France demanded formal recognition of Negrin’s cabinet before granting status to its ministers.
A native of Waltham, deceased after a period of illness, was laid to rest at a local cemetery. The funeral for James Rooney Jr. was held with Wade Rooney and other relatives attending.
Sarah J Harris 66 wife of Sherman Harris of 203 Mill Street died at 4 30 Sunday morning at home after four months illness. Born March 12 1872 in Indiana she lived most of her life in the state, moving to Dar ness county five years ago. She married Berns April 29 1896 and had two children. Survivors include her husband and several relatives. Funeral at 2 o'clock from Oak Grove Williams with viewing prior.
Educational exhibits center the Daviess county corn show to be held at the courthouse on Wednesday Thursday and Friday this week. Wheat specialist C E Skiver will present two panels on wheat production and one on weed control while Mrs Skiver will answer questions on varieties fertilization and other local problems. The world reserve champion soy bean sample grown by Robert Sloan of Greene county will travel to Daviess from the International Hay and Grain Show and Purdue. Sloan will also attend the local show. An exhibit of hybrid inbreds courtesy of H L Olbert will interest corn growers. The show runs February 4 9 and promises educational appeal for farmers and city residents.
Lester Preston of Petersburg RFD L was admitted Saturday afternoon for accident injuries. A daughter was born to Mrs Theodore Weatherell Flora TJ and to Mrs Lester C Sheley RFD 1 city on Sunday afternoon. Beulah May Hill of Bickne 2 underwent a major operation Sunday afternoon. Ralph Fleener RFD 3 submitted to a minor operation today. Pauline Evans 211 Front street was admitted this morning for medical treatment.
Police announced a brown coat a light cap and a case found in the garage at the home of Mrs Elva Bel Fifth and East Flora streets One article may be reclaimed by calling police headquarters and identifying it.

A Meridian hotel raid by a city county police unit at 8:30 Sunday morning took in about twenty men and women. Some released later, 12 remained jailed awaiting charges or decisions on action. Officers indicated several faces faced possible liquor sale charges among others.

Evansville reported 40 feet on the Ohio with forecasts of a four foot rise. several roads near Mauckport, Lamb, Tobinport, Dechy, Lamar, and Medora were closed as officials warned of three to four days of disruption.
Donald Dyer, 19, living near Plainville, pleaded guilty to issuing fraudulent checks. He was ordered to pay $100 and costs and sentenced to serve one to five years in the Pendleton reformatory. He had been held for about eight hundred time in the local jail after a prior fore shee incident.
