Local option measure goes before Senate in Indiana
Indianapolis Feb 1 The Indiana Senate opened debate on a local option bill from the Indiana Anti-Saloon League. Sponsor Senator Larry Brandon Democrat Auburn proposed allowing counties towns townships wards and even small communities to decide on intoxicant sales. Option elections would be limited to 15 percent petitioners with 50 to 500 residents per unit. Elections would be yes or no on beer and liquor sales. No sales would occur from 1 am to 6 am on option election days.

Flooding Hits Indiana Lowlands as Storm Looms
Thousands of acres of Indiana bottomlands were inundated today along the forks of White river from Greene county to near Washington. Readings reached about 23 feet, slightly above flood stage in Petersburg and Hazelton. Wabash river near Terre Haute expected to rise toward flood stage within 36 to 48 hours as a severe storm nears from the west. Indiana weather bureau official J. H. Axinton warned a disaster would be avoided only if the storm shifts north.

Ernest H. Strate of Sandborn and John M. Flick of Washington underwent major operations at the hospital. Mrs. Joe Larkin from Loogootee is much better after pneumonia treatment with serum flown from New York City. Pneumonia serum was unobtainable locally. Her reaction to the serum is believed to be the cause of her improved condition. John Hamilton, injured yesterday when run down by a heavy tractor, is reported improved today.

New Charge in Potts Murder Near Indianapolis
Indianapolis Feb 1 The Marion county grand jury indicted Raymond Duvall and Richard Jackson on murder charges. Duvall remains jailed in Indiana State Prison for a bank robbery. the grand jury planned to probe arrangements for bail. A court order seized the $2,500 found with him at arrest.
