Legal questions arise over prisoner transfer to reformatory

Indiana reformatory superintendent Whittaker seeks judicial guidance on two issues from Judge Hillary Houghton and Gov. J Frank Hanty. First, can receiving prisoners be interrogated while in custody, and second, can prisoners be moved from a county jail to the reformatory if the jail is unsafe but there is no risk of violence. Whittaker reports drunken prisoners arriving at Shoals and criticizes the sheriff for transporting them. He asks for construction of the law and notes that the inmates were under the influence when brought in.

John F. Ward of Harrison town said in the city today that this is the mildest winter he ever saw. He observed bluish grain and wheat nearby grew an inch last week, attributing the growth to the mild weather.

Kidwell of the U S Army, a Washington boy stationed at Weat Paint North Carolina as commissary sergeant, travels with his wife and two children for a two year assignment in the Philippine Islands after a twenty day furlough. They plan to settle temporarily in the city before sailing from San Francisco.

City reports lamp vandalism by youths in east city

Preliminary Mi party county convention drew a large crowd as J W McCarty was chosen permanent chair and 8 B Boyd secretary. Precinct leaders were named for Washington township with Withee, Hugh ONeid, John Daly, S B Boyl, Henry Bothes, William Dobbin, John Ht Spen can, Arthur Hj Oreswood, John Hawkin, George Etterlin, Luke Kneds, Edward Fish, and more. A county committee was formed, with Elmore Democrats naming further committeemen. a resolution favored nominating a county candidate. Also notes Indiana Library law permitting statewide access to state books for citizens, with conditions and transportation costs.
