About 1200 children were treated at the American Legion Christmas party at St Sumon gymnasium. Families received 411 food baskets for Christmas dinner, with toys and festive meals for children, as good fellows supplied the centerpieces for the event.

Win Ervin McConnell 409 South Meridian Street died about 6 oclock Monday at his brother Johns home. He moved here from Aurora where his prior home stood. Burial will be in Aurora with James A. & Son in charge of arrangements.
Thomas Buckley, 31, of Washaanig, held today pending filing of charges for an alleged robbery of the Clifton Dalby home last Friday night in which groceries were taken. Sheriff Milton H. Fitzgerald said a search of Buckley’s home recovered the groceries identified as from the Dalby residence.
Joel Wininger, 67, of Wheatland, was arrested Saturday evening and faces charges of public intoxication after officers detained him.

Fire destroyed the four room residence of Mr and Mrs John Berry five miles east of Washington Monday night around 9 o clock. Loss estimated 2500 to 3000 with most possessions incinerated. The couple had returned from visiting neighbors to find flames already well in progress.

Mary Ann Arvin 86 widow of Edward Arvin and resident of Barr township died at 8 10 morning at her son Frank Arvin's home after a two year illness. Born January 31 1852 in Reeve township she lived in Barr and Loogootee most of her life. Survived by sons Frank Arvin Barr township Drew Indianapolis Mills Indianapolis and Joseph Carmelburg with one daughter who died in infancy. a sister Jane Healy of Loogootee and several brothers. Funeral arrangements by Norris Funeral Home with rosary Wednesday night and funeral at St John's church Thursday followed by interment at St Peter's Cemetery Montgomery.
The state tax board approved a $35,300 additional appropriation for the School City of Washington in Daviess County. It covers $7,100 for December teachers salaries, $28,200 for the special School fund, including $12,000 for a heating plant and funds for repairs to school property damaged in a July storm.
James Albert Williams 70 a longtime Loogootee resident died Saturday night at 8 30 at his Connersville home after a recurring stroke of paralysis. Body returned to Loogootee and funeral at St Martins Whitfield with burial in the parish cemetery. Born July 17 1868 he lived most of his life in Loogootee moving to Connersville about a century ago. Surviving: children William Charles Dan Williams of Lafayette Williams of Connersville Frank Williams of Pet Surviving brother Herschel Williams and two sisters.
Wheatland physician Dr Jennings died after being stricken at home while visiting his granddaughter Anna Marie. Survived by widow and several children including Gene Weaver and Mrs Haley, with service arrangements pending.
A B and O double header freight train derailed near Hope Ohio south of Athens killing engineer Fred Landrum of Chillicothe and injuring a fireman whose name was not learned. Both locomotives and twelve cars were derailed and damaged in the wreck.
