Danville Ill Dec 18 a Chicago Heights man M Ward was released by kidnapers after paying 50000 dollars in ransom. Ward had been seized Saturday near his home and driven away. his wife was unharmed. The release came after Ward hired a middleman who telephoned the ransom payment and location of the drop. Ward was freed near Danville three miles from the highway after being taken from Hoopeston to the Dixie Highway. He was returned to his home with his wife awaiting him.
In Loogootee Indiana on a Wednesday night an unmasked bandit robbed William Strange of $28 as he walked home with Mrs. Strange after shopping. The suspect fled in a car with an accomplice. police searched but found no trace. The stolen Ford coupe from Tulsa was held for insurance inquiry.
In Chicago this week six bandits, amateurs seeking holiday money, were killed in a series of pre Christmas holdups. Police or their intended victims killed three more last night elevating the total to six. Joseph Shore, 35, formerly led a small orchestra, was shot by Officer Michael in the Loop after guarding a store. Escalona was killed by Seibold, a former policeman, in a butcher shop hold up. St Albans Dec 18 Frank L Greene veteran editor and senator from Vermont died after an operation for hernia complications He had been paralyzed since 1924 from a gun fight in Washington He was 60 years old His wife and daughter Mrs Alexander and two sons from Boston were with him during the operation
