In a habeas action, Louis Stanton of Elmore township sought custody of his two infant children. The court found for the defendants, granting custody to the maternal grandparents Fred Hastings and his wife, noting the children had been in their care since before the mother’s death. Stanton had requested placement with his own family.
Indiana reports violent deaths totaling eleven over the weekend including a factory electrocution in Muncie, a Terre Haute fire death, a fall in a Wabash home, a Nashville auto crash, a car driver held for investigation, and a Gary constable shot in his car. Two New Albany men were arrested Saturday night after a state highway officer found a ditch with a truck rental and a suspect in the vehicle. The pair faced charges of intoxication and were arraigned before a justice of the peace, fined $1.00 plus costs. Marshall Potter and Charles Meeks were identified in connection with the truck.

The tally across precincts showed Leach leading 543 to Harris, with counts 183 150 215 for Leach and 216 174 for Harris in the first and third precincts, respectively.
