Johnny Simpson topped the field at the Indiana Amateur finishing with a 73 on the Richmond course to secure a place in match play. John Reinsel of Washington shot 88 and failed to qualify for today's rounds.
Freeman Underhill as chair of an unemployed group urged county commissioners and city officials to address Washington County relief. He said men want work not charity and cited families suffering as WPA projects were delayed. He was joined by three committee members outside, with about 25 supporters observing.

Washington Aug 13 A new $260,000,000 tax bill headed for Senate action today. The three finance committee proposed drastic changes on lower bracket income taxes and other levies, after Wisconsin Senator La Follette urged earlier revisions. The bill would cut into corporate and individual taxes while reshaping feasibility for reduced rates.
County council approves securing right-of-way along Portersville road for state highway control. Funds for this will come from next year's gasoline taxes. Pers Colbert and Carnahan report progress and expect completion soon. Council votes unanimously to cover right-of-way costs to enable transfer to the state.
John MacDonald itinerant waiter and key witness in the 1916 Mooney bombing trial admits his testimony was false. He spoke in Baltimore while hospitalized and in the presence of A E Shaw and Mooney's legal team as the deposition prep for a habeas corpus hearing in California.
In Huntington Indiana on August 23 nine of eleven cited for civil contempt regarding a $1950 contempt damages related to extending municipal electric service were granted superseders by the supreme court freeing them from paying the judgment. Mayor Clare W Bangs serving jail time for contempt and James Van Pelt did not join the group in requesting the writ.
The county commission approved a 1936 budget of 141000 plus more for operation of court house jail and poor farm. It includes proposed relief figures and plans to study and approve on September 3. The agenda lists township allocations and bond interest reductions as part of the plan.
Daviess County Farm Bureau announces its annual Labor Day picnic at Eagle Park with a full day of entertainment contests games and a Petersburg Girls Band performance. The event invites bureau members and families and is part of the county farm bureau activities along with a Reeve Township Farm Bureau gathering on August 12 at Taylor Frye Grove.
The fair will swap cash for tickets at most stands to streamline sales during the three day event August 27 28 and 29. Ticket booths will be set up widely across the grounds and near convenient spots to reduce confusion and speed purchases.

In a terse report a Kendallvine Frank Knepn a man connected to a land seizure claim allegedly died by self harm. Authorities say his decapitated body was found near a railroad right of way, suspected to have been thrown in front of a moving train amid the dispute over land seizure actions.
County council met in a special session to consider about $50 appropriated for relief claims in Daviess. Under state law the board must stay two days, one to study and one for final decisions, with a plan to reconvene for a final determination on the poor relief situation.
