French advance near Montdidier reported in battle
London August 10 The French have reached the important bridge head on the Maiz river and claim capture of Faverolles. United States and British forces attacked in Picardy, breaking lines north of the Somme and advancing toward Roye and Chaultes. Allied losses are described as light while German resistance collapses. about 300 guns and many prisoners reported. The Montdidier pocket is said to be closing with rapid gains by Canadiana and Australiana units within six miles of Roye.
