Rev B Henshaw led the service in memory of the young woman, as family and mourners filled the church. Census figures for Elnora and Cannelburg in Daviess county show population declines since 1920. Elnora stands at 850 today, down from 865 in 1920, a ten year loss of fifteen people. Cannelburg drops from 224 in 1920 to 132 in 1930, a loss of ninety two people, per census supervisor Logan Winter. Washington figures not yet available as enumerators finish work.

The Lew Barber residence six miles south of Washington suffered a major roof fire early today with damage estimated around 250 dollars. Volunteer bucket brigades saved the home after the blaze was spotted at about 7 am by a passing school truck driver. The roof burned away about a quarter before crews could begin effective control.
Indianapolis April 24 A boiler explosion in the Consolidated Building basement injured two men slightly and caused about ten thousand dollars in damage. Charles Pike 40 night watch man was hurled from a stairway with a wrenched back and minor bruises. Fred Logier 47 elevator operator was cut on the hand by glass. The blast collapsed an elevator shaft and damaged stairways marble floors walls and fixtures.
Fire this morning at about 10 30 destroyed part of a dwelling owned by S B Dillin three miles south of Elnora on State Road 54. Damages were around 100 dollars. Fire originated from a defective fuse or fire source and the roof was badly damaged. volunteers fought the blaze.

John Hastings, local attorney, was elected president of the Rotary Club for the upcoming year at today’s regular meeting. A board of directors was chosen, with Fitzgibbon succeeding the retiring president. New officers include J. Holliday as vice president Dr. Roy Smiley as secretary and M. F. Burke as treasurer. Directors named were Dr. H. C. Wadeworth William Fitzgibbon and Henry Nordheim. Esra Mattingly gave the keynote on General Grant and next Thursday’s meeting was announced.
