Representatives from bakeries and confectioners civic clubs farm ministers and feed dealers attend the meeting in Daviess county U. S. A. council. William Beckett administrator will preside at six o'clock Monday evening at the courthouse.
Joe Butch of Cannerburg was fined $1 and costs for running a red light. Russell Harbin of Columbus, Indiana, was fined $10 and costs for not displaying a license plate on a trailer in Justice of Peace Ernest L. Raney's court.
A 1906 Terraplane driven by George Catshall of 104 East Van Trees Street collided with a 1941 Chevrolet. No injuries noted in the brief report. Investigation and police action not detailed in readable text.

Washington, April 20. President Truman and former President Hoover warned of the greatest starvation threat in history. The agriculture department planned 25 percent cuts in domestic wheat use as a relief effort, while urging grain releases to UNRRA. Hoover urged Russia to guarantee grain and Britain to release breadstuffs, with Europe and Asia facing dire shortages if shipments fail to move. Truman asked Americans to save bread and fats, proposing two days a week of reduced intake to aid starving peoples.
Otto A Stone longtime community member and former East Third Street shoe shop owner died after illness. He worked at Wide Awake Shoe Repair Shop and belonged to St Marys church and Knights of Columbus. Born February 7 1891 in Daniels County he married Myrtie Guthrie June 3 1913. Survived by wife two children two sisters brother and two grandchildren. Port services at ten tomorrow at St Johns with Keller Mortuary handling arrangements.
Amelia Ann Gentry, 76, died at 8:00 AM in Daviess County hospital after two years of ill health. Born March 21, 1870, she was the daughter of Benton and Sarah Jane Neiigan Gentry. She had resided in Plainville, Daviess County, for the last ten years and was the last of her family.
Major operations were performed last night on Master Richard Bell of Orwell. Admitted earlier was James Burdette, of Petworth.
Lyttle Berry Boston aged 73 died at Ball Memorial Hospital Muncie Indiana at 4 this morning after a 10 day illness from a stroke. Born Versailles Kentucky July 17 1873 he moved through Nashville Terre Haute Sullivan Washington and finally Marion Muncie where he managed hotels. Survived by widow Pearl Blanford Boston one daughter Mrs Robert J Dick Washington and three sons Blanford Montford John T Boston all living in Indiana.
The American Legion Junior Baseball League will hold a practice Sunday at 1:00 PM at Allen field. A good crowd of boys is expected to attend.
The condition of G. Arthur Morgan, hospitalized in Daviess County, is described as low after axe wounds. He has not been able to take nourishment and is receiving intravenous feeding.
Washington April 20. President Truman met with John L. Lewis and Labor Secretary Schwellenbach in a 15 minute session described as an informative conversation with no conclusive results. Lewis visited at Labor Secretary’s request to apprise the president of the 20 day old strike affecting 400000 bituminous miners.
Harley A. Kinman, former Petersburg chief of police, died yesterday at 4 30 am at age 68 after recent surgery in Evansville. Born April 13, 1878 in Pike county, he married Lula Miller in 1900. Survived by wife, son Wendell Kinman, daughter Mary Kinman, brother James Kinman Pike County sheriff. Funeral Sunday at 2 pm Harristal Home with Hill burial.
Washington D C officials reported no assurances from the United Mine Workers on resuming soft coal negotiations next week. Secretary Schwellenbach planned separate talks with parties to revive talks for a settlement of the 20 day strike affecting 400000 miners. John L Lewis signaled no clear timeline. Benjamin Fairless of U S Steel warned prolonged coal stoppage threatens mass production cuts and widespread unemployment.
Indianapolis April 20. F Shirley Wilcox commissioner of internal revenue estimated nearly one million of Indiana's 1,350,000 federal income taxpayers will receive refunds on 1945 taxes. He noted refunds arise because withholdings were based on full time work though many employees were unemployed earlier in the year.
In Greenfield Indiana an early morning automobile accident killed two men. Pvt Marvin Zelle and Herrison Sears 20 of Linton were the dead. Zelle died at Fort Benjamin Harrison and Sears was killed instantly. Army authorities held Zelle's address until next of kin was notified. Three soldiers and a navy man were injured.
Indianapolis April 20 Howard Pollard 24-year-old known criminal signed a confession admitting he killed Leland Miller 24 in self defense after a tavern dispute He described dismembering Miller placing body in a car burning remains and disposing of hands and foot in a brush pile near Advance Ind He was later identified by prints and his criminal record Pollard who has 18 prior arrests has long been a fixture in Marion County justice circles and faces multiple larceny and other charges.
GOP national chairman Carroll Reece denounces the political action committee as the spearhead of red reactionism. He cites a six million dollar slush fund to defeat congressmen who refuse the PAC's bidding and predicts Republicans will sweep November elections despite forces of reaction. He criticizes the Truman administration for slow reconversion and current shortages amid returning veterans.
The Senate post office committee unanimously recommended enactment of a bill granting postal workers a 400 dollar annual pay raise for full time staff and 20 cent hourly boosts for part time workers. Fourth class postmasters would receive a 20 percent increase, aligning post office pay with other federal workers after a 48 to 40 hour cutback.

Pred today a request by D C Stephenson to convene a grand jury to investigate a death to prevent her testifying in his behalf in 1925. The reference noted Stephenson serving a life sentence at the state in Michigan City. Miss Dean was found near death at Castleton days before Stephenson's trial began. her body mangled and she died.
