Don N Holmes of the military district will be in Washington on Friday April to enlist former service men. The Regular Army Reserve urged by the president. Holmes will be at the city 2 to 8 pm on that date to enlist for four years and receive 24 dollars per year from the U.S. Army.
Three youths were questioned by police today in connection with a fatal shooting. A description matched the gunman who shot a man during a taxi cab holdup last night. One youth was arrested earlier in the investigation as detectives pursued recent robberies.

Relatives report the death of Fred Stumpp at his home in Wewoka on Sunday April 16. He was survived by his widow and three children plus brothers and sisters including Charles Stumpp Mrs Fred Summers Indian Mrs Alice Eckert Brazil Henry Stumpp Mrs John Manda ch and Mrs Charles Shephard of this city.
Steele Township Farm Bureau will meet Thursday night at 7:4 o'clock at the Harbstreit Community House on Road 57 between Washington and Plainville. The Barr Township Farm Bureau will present an interesting program. Ladies are asked to bring sandwiches.
A Vincennes dispatch reports two suits filed by the State Bank for sums on checks stopped by Bicknell Finance Co. One suit seeks $470.40. Washington National Bank filed the other for $437. The Democrat notes only this single check suit details.
Barr Township held a night meeting with strong attendance. The Steele township group presented a playlet Wedding Bells Ring and a musical program entertained attendees. An employee of Montgomery Ward also led a demonstration.
Delegates to the Townsend Clubs national convention to be held in June in Indianapolis were elected last night by the No. 1 club of Washington. They are W. G. Williams, S. H. Burton, A. B. Mey, and James Tooley. The club plans a public sale at Hopewell Store on April 29.
Richmond April 18. At a meeting directors ousted Robert R. Young as member of the carriers executive and finance committee. In his place they named R. Gifford to the executive committee and H. L. Ferguson to the committee.

The Daviess county order announces the third meeting of the older youth group at Kiwanis Cabin in East side Park Washington Thursday at 7 45 p m. Permanent officers will be elected and a program featuring talent within the group is planned. The organization targets youths who are out of high school and invites young men and women past high school age to attend.

A bookkeeping transfer moved funds from equipment to the buildings fund at the county farm. John E. Peek was elected to represent the board on the County Adjustment Board next September.

William Stuckey head of the motor vehicles division is named a public service commission member to succeed Fred F. Bays who resigned to become Democratic state chairman. James Beattey of Indianapolis is named to succeed Stuckey as motor vehicles division secretary of the Democratic state committee last week. Stuckey has a long background in state government including roles with the farm debt adjustment committee and Townsend era agencies.
A daughter was born to Mia and Billy Edwards of Swan Pond Road.
Homer Capehart denounced Paul V. McNutt in Kokomo and called him an outside Republican from New York. Indiana Democratic national committeeman Frank McHale countered, saying the speech signals McNutt’s growing strength and noting Capehart’s outside status.
Washington High School releases the spring sports calendar under Coach Marion Rare Ley.
