Scott Field Illinois April 16 two soldiers were killed and 42 wounded when their air corps ground crew unit was struck by a car during a march on Highway 161 near Scott Field. The driver, George H. Lickenbrock, 20, of St. Libori Illinois, faced manslaughter charges.

Chicago police report a welding machine exploded in a southwest side drugstore basement killing a yet unidentified worker and injuring four others, with Forest Avly among the seriously hurt. William H Lyon of 501 Dewey street Loogootee died at his home Monday at 5 30 am after a 30 minute illness. Born January 16 1872 in Martin county he was a store inspector and a member of Loogootee Methodist church and three lodges. He married Lillie Clements in 1893 who died in 1925 and his second wife Julia A Crane survives. He leaves four sons Elliott and Clyde with homes in Iowa and Indiana and nine grandchildren. Funeral at the Catholic church in Loogootee Wednesday at 2 pm with burial in Goodwill cemetery.
