Harold Allen dies in Indianapolis. Survivors include his wife Katherine (Butcher) Allen and Mrs. Will Longer of Danville, Alabama. The funeral will be held at 8 30 Tuesday morning in Indianapolis.
Washington April 15 A sharp clash in the Senate banking committee centered on extending OPA powers. Senator Capehart accused Senator Wagner of blocking testimony while Bowles urged a full year extension, warning compromise plans would risk inflation. Capehart said he would welcome views from 140 million Americans affected by the legislation. Bowles attacked farm parity and proposed no changes in margins to curb prices.
Nearly 1800 union carpenters walked out in Indianapolis halting several building projects while residential work continued. Spokesmen from the Marion County district council AFL said they had sought a new contract since October, seeking a $1.80 per hour scale, a 30 cent raise, and had rejected an earlier offer.
In Washington on April 15 the House passed a nine month extension of Selective Service with teen age exemptions and a suspended draft at least until October 15. City and county authorities and State Police said Mrs. Mildred Morgan 45 was murdered by her estranged husband G Arthur Morgan 68 early Sunday. They allege he killed her with an axe saturated her body and home with kerosene and tried to burn evidence then injured himself. Firemen found her charred body in a bedroom. Prosecutor Hayes will seek grand jury review April 22. Morgan reportedly confessed before losing consciousness saying it was a mess. State police noted his suitcase was packed and he wore blood stained clothes. Neighbors heard no screams and a fire additional detail describe the scene and investigation.
Hospital notes list minor operations and admissions across several towns including Petersburg Jasper Loogootee and Bloomington. An obituary fragment details Olivia Morgan born August 4 1900 in Virginia daughter of A C and Ann Cutlip. married Arthur Morgan July 26 1926. survived by two daughters five stepchildren two brothers and other relatives.
Roger Gerald and Byron Dyer move Dyer Bros Radio Service to a remodeled store at 406 E Van Trees St. They will operate one of Indiana’s finest radio and electronic repair shops with Haskel Dyer, recently discharged from the Army Signal Corps, now joining the firm.
A 1964 Ford Tudor driven by Mrs Helen Terrell of 309 Ogden Street collided with a 1935 Chevrolet Tudor driven by Harold Faith. Property damage estimated at 90 dollars for the Ford and about 100 dollars for the Chevrolet. No injuries reported.
The Washington Community Association sponsors a public dinner on Wednesday April 24 at 6 30 PM at St Mary's School. The speaker will be R F Robinson editor at of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
City School Superintendent reminds patrons that regular Spring Vacation begins this week. All city schools will dismiss Wednesday at noon and resume the following Monday morning.

Hannah Caroline Empson aged 77 of Van Buren Daviess county died at her residence Sunday evening after long illness. She married George Empson March 9, 1892 and he survives. Born February 7 1869 to Isaac and Annie Fortner she moved from northern Martin to Daviess nine years ago. She was a Union Baptist church member and is survived by three children Lola Pearl Fisher Clara Ethel Reynolds and Marion Snowden Empson and two sisters Nora Adkins and Charity Hurt.
Indianapolis police said they had made little progress in solving the dismemberment murder of Leland Paul Miller age 24. They sought Howard G. Pollard of Indianapolis who had prior arrests and quarreled with Miller. Miller’s charred torso was found in a burned shack near Ladoga after his hands and left foot were recovered from a bonfire near Advance. Private funeral services for Miller were held in Indianapolis with burial in Russellville Putnam county.
