Judge Joseph G. Leffler of the Delaware circuit court spoke at Calvary Baptist Church urging that business money should be under political control to defend American ideals. He warned that wealth could sway elections and praised patriotism, civic duty, and especially the influence of women. He noted his Muncie ties and 43 years old, then highlighted a varied program including local entertainment and a B&O Southwestern visit from Columbus.

Delbert Carnahan, son of Elza Carnahan, living about a mile east of Cumback, fell on an ax Saturday afternoon. The blade severed his nose and four stitches closed the wound. The physician reports the boy will recover completely.
A new city ordinance licensing slot machines went into effect today in Bloomington. Machines not paying full value for players' money are banned, and those called street-shot machines are barred. Police will maintain a complete record of all machines operated in the city.
Mrs. M S Hastings traveled to Summit Indiana today after receiving a telegram that her father, in his eighties, is in critical condition and has suffered poor health through the winter.
Ernest Natemeier formerly of Evansville and Dale Indiana, aged forty, ended his life by taking poison in a saloon at 439 Washington Street Indianapolis after repeated suicide attempts and job loss. He had lived in Evansville two years ago and worked on the south side. He left a wife, a stepson, and two sons Oscar and John. Natemeier, German-born, had recently been employed by Grill Brothers before being laid off. His body was moved to Dale Indiana for burial.
A 60 year old man undergoing treatment for mental illness showed signs of relapse after his condition seemed improved. Sunday, he became violent. Nathan E. Bilison and Constable J M Cox detained him at the jail in Washington, but he escaped at the jail door and fled down Main Street before recapture. Officials blame financial troubles for the relapse as telephones extend into Veale township and connect with Central Union in Washington, sparking lively patronage. Joe Franklin notes telephone lines can quickly tell who is washing that day, how many hens are “getting,” and who visited whom on Sunday.
Miss Leota Moore suffered a severe burn on her left arm when a match ignited the sleeve of her waist at Mr Brawns home at east Fifth and Main streets Sunday afternoon. Dr Vance May reports signs point to a speedy recovery as the patient was alone in her room and managed to smother the flames.
William H. Orr, a Civil War veteran, files for divorce from Katherine Orr after 34 years of marriage. He alleges cruelty including punching and a knife attack and accuses her of habitual drunkenness. They wed in Lawrence County and have lived in Washington for 19 years.
Alfred Lett of Steele township will be sent to the Southern Indians Hospital for the Insane if admission he secured for him. Application has been made. Lett was released from that institution a few years ago.
Local station agents are instructed to charge two and a half cents per mile for tickets to points outside Indiana while preserving two cents per mile for in state travel. Washington to Cincinnati costs rise to 4.25 dollars under the new rule effective today. Indiana aims to block interstate rates, planning court action, as E T and other lines limit sales to outside Indiana.
Michael Foley a well known farmer living four miles north of this city is reported dying of consumption.
The Infant son Joseph Underwood died Saturday. He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery Sunday afternoon. The Underwood family resides northwest of the city.
