Terre Haute April 12 The Vermillion county election that closed thirty saloons in Clichton mining town led to six policemen being indicted for withholding fees owed to the city treasury. Authorities warn of violence and threats against saloon opponents while supporters threaten drastic action before law proceeds.
St Louis, April 12. Thousands of recruits for the Navy of the Lord were immersed in the icy Mississippi by Pastor J B Parker of the au tegre church. After dipping in the river the negroes changed garments in a nearby tailor shop. Forty five of the recruits renounced joining the navy due to the cold water.
J. E. B. LaPlante of Vincennes Indiana will receive a large touring automobile as a graduation present from Georgetown University. Mrs LaPlante will attend the delivery and witness the car’s arrival in good condition. The trip will start in Washington D C and proceed to Vincennes with LaPlante and a group of college friends aboard on the long journey.
Mrs. Yella Stringer, detained on a charge of attempted plack tall, has shown improvement for several days but may require medical lancing to treat a seriously wounded arm. The injury was sustained from a small shot, with officials noting the risk of infection and the need for careful care at the sheriff’s facility.
