Mrs Herman Richard of St Louis, formerly of this city, daughter of Edward G Essig, won first prize in the Women Safe Drivers contest in St Louis. She achieved a perfect score of 100, the first perfect grade in the school’s twenty two year history. She received a handsome prize and a broadcast program award.
President Truman announced tests of the atomic bomb in the Pacific will begin July 1 to evaluate the weapon's effect on defense establishments. The program, delayed from May 15, aims to provide vital intelligence for future planning as over 100 surface vessels gather at Bikini Atoll for the tests.
