William Fitzgibbon today announced he cannot secure a shipment of legal beer and warns it may be a week or more before delivery. Meanwhile two locals are selling beer obtained elsewhere, marking the first legal beer sales in Washington since the change in the prohibition law.
President Roosevelt spoke at the Pan American Union urging immediate dismantling of trade barriers to improve Western Hemisphere flow. He referenced undeclared wars between Bolivia and Paraguay and Colombia and Peru, stressing no armed strife between neighbors. Mrs. Rachael Jane Abel Brown, 83, mother of Mrs. Frank Harner of Washington, died at 12:32 this morning at the Harner home on Old Road 50 near the rnv. Ill for weeks, had resided at Wedgie's home. Born January 22, 1870, she was a daughter of Josiah and Sally Abel. Survived by sons William Brown of Philadelphia and William Abel of Bell, Md., plus daughters Mrs. Henry Wininger and Mrs. Grover Hamm. Funeral services set for 9 o'clock Friday.

Florence April 12. Superior Judge Greene approves a sanity hearing for Winnie Judd, sentenced for the murder of nurse Ann Leroi. If found insane she would be committed to the state asylum for life. Walker and state alienists will present observations, while Judd and her lawyers may respond. An early hearing is expected as county jurors meet.
In Vatican City on April 12 Vice Chancellor Franz von Papen of Germany received a private audience with Pope Pius XI to discuss church approval for the Nazi government. Von Papen spoke with the Pope for about thirty minutes in the Pontiff's private library. Frau Von Papen was received separately, and Hermann Goering, a minister in the Hitler cabinet, was also received by the Pope, wearing an air force uniform.

R. 5 underwent a major operation. Leopold Sedhuble of 18 patient at the hospital for days and was able to go home today.

Charlie Killion 70, native of Daviess County and longtime Petersburg resident, died at home in Petersburg. He was born north of Plainville to John and unnamed mother, married Martha Culbertson of Edwardsport, and is survived by five children Florence Eloise Charles Alfred and Lester of Petersburg, plus a step mother, brother Why Killion, and two heirs Clara and Mrs Denie Terre Haute. Funeral arrangements have not been made.
Louis A. Johnson national commander of the American Legion met with President Roosevelt in the White House to discuss veterans compensation reductions. Johnson said he left confident that justice would be done for disabled veterans.
Mrs. Mariah Jane Coleman 72 of State Road 50 near Maysville died at 5 06 this morning after a 10 day illness of general debility. She lived most of her life in Washington area. Born August 20, 1860 in Daviess county, she is survived by daughter Mrs Charles Fyffe and four sisters. In Linton Indiana on April 12 a white man and a medium sized negro passed bogus fifty cent coins at a rural filling station near Jim Ray's cave east of Bloomfield. Sheriff Bun Mitchell pursued the pair as the currency was light and slippery and investigators feared more passes in Greene County towns. The note describes one large white man and a medium negro driving an Essex Tudor heading west.
