At Tuesday’s regular meeting the Daviess county commissioners fixed pay for primary election workers. Election inspectors will get 16 cents per day, judges clerks and assistant clerks 9 dollars per day, and sheriffs 6 dollars per day. They approved 75 cents for two meals and conducted an inventory of the county farm.
Indiana authorities hunted for John Bowen Jr. after he slipped from Shelby County Jail during the night. Sheriff Fred Courtney reported Bowen, jailed on trailer theft charges, likely had outside help. He was seen driving a large sedan near Knightstown with a woman and child aboard.
Dexter Gainey a 15 year old youth was taken into custody by Greene County officials at the home of relatives. Five automobiles were reported stolen and later confessed to by the youths.

Washington April 3 Two convicted murderers escaped from death row in a District of Columbia jail while wearing police uniforms. They overpowered guards, seized keys, and fled around 5 am. Suspects are Joseph Mediey for the Nancy Boyer killing and Earl McFarland a former Marine awaiting execution for a Hains Point murder. Police are investigating the break.
New York April 3 AP The Iran Soviet dispute dissolves as Iran offers to withdraw its complaint against the Soviet Union if Red troops leave Iran unconditionally by May 6 A Soviet note says withdrawal began March 24 and will be completed in a month and a half with no conditions The UN Security Council adjourns briefly to digest the replies as Iran and the Soviet Union move toward ending the confrontation
