Weather report by local observer C C Feaglans notes March had a wider temperature range than last year with 20 degrees at the low and 84 at the high. Mean maximum 58.8, mean minimum 36.2, and mean 47.5. Total precipitation 4.23 inches, 2.19 inches on the fourth. Last year rainfall was 7.48 inches. Six days with 01 inch or more rainfall, 18 clear days, six partly cloudy, seven cloudy.
The Washington Indiana State Teachers College A Cappella Choir, 64 voices with a college string quartet, performs Wednesday April 5 at 8 pm in the high school gym. Prof Lowell Mason leads the program, with a 10 cent admission for all but young children. Tickets available at the gym or through teachers and students.
The joint congressional TVA investigation committee cleared the Tennessee Valley Authority and its directors of charges, while a republican minority accused a whitewash and urged a sweeping nationalization to curb waste and inefficiency. The panel split six to three, noting internal disputes and Dr. Arthur Morgan’s role but affirming TVA’s broad economic value.
Sheriff Milton H Fitzgerald investigated theft at Red Allens farm Plainville where three hams were stolen from a smoke house after a lock was broken on Saturday night. A coop was reported missing from the Allen home along with the hams. Nearby, two other robberies occurred Saturday night with three rolls of wire taken from Mrs Fettigs home and 20 chickens taken from J A Killion home southeast of Plainville.
Mrs. Minkie Gamble of 615 East South street learns Saturday of her sister Mrs Ida McLaughlin of Hunon West Virginia death. McLaughlin, a former Washington resident, is survived by one son in Cincinnati and by sister Tom Cook.
Orville Livengood a local baseball player and former Grays has word of a Bees tryout for practice with the St Louis Cardinals beginning April 1. He will play third base and depart Tuesday morning to begin practice in preparation for joining the major league roster.
Miss Esther Riedel of Indianapolis has accepted a position as beauty consultant at Lindeman's Pharmacy. She will be in charge of the cosmetic lines carried by Lindeman's Drug Store. An advertisement in today's Democrat announced her appointment and noted her experience and training.
James E McRoberta a Baltimore and Ohio fireman who lost both legs last Thursday night when he fell beneath a local freight train is reported in good condition at Daviess County Hospital today He had a good regimen and is improving with care
Firefighters responded around 8 30 this morning to the Homer Trowbridge residence at West A enth and McCormick streets where a roof fire caused minor damage.
William Davidson of Washington entered the Methodist hospital in Indianapolis today for admission. The brief notice notes his arrival and ongoing treatment status, indicating a medical stay to be completed.
The Washington Gun Club hosted a state registered skeet shoot with about 2 000 shots fired by visitors from Terre Haute South Bend Olney Bruceville Wheatland Evansville and Indianapolis. Top scores tied at 24 included M Garret Olney Mr Hawkins Terre Haute and Mr Parnell South Bend. The event runs two days with pay at public clubhouse and visitors welcomed at no charge.
County commissioners planned to review back pay claims of Taylor Frye and James L. Bateman for time served in office. Indiana law requires appropriation and approval before payment, and no funds are in hand. If court action occurs, payment would be held until funds are allocated and orders issued.

Roe Foster aged 69 died at home after a long illness attributed to heart disease. Born February 8, 1878 in Olney Illinois he was the son of Charles Frederick and Elizabeth Foster. He lived in Washington for 22 years after moving from Olney and worked as a fireman for the B L & railroad. He married Ida Wilson on February 19 1899 and is survived by his widow and sisters Mrs John M Ashington Mrs Edith Ignney Mrs Oscar 7 of Hamilton Ohio and Mrs Beattie of Van Wert Ohio. James A Gill & Sons will handle the funeral arrangements.
Washington reports President Roosevelt distressed by congressional calls for massive new appropriations. He allegedly warned that plans for a nine billion dollar budget and public works proposals may face hard votes in late session. Officials say he has refused to end push for spending and warned others to save money.
Local Latin students from Washington Bloomington Montgomery competed in the district contest supervised by Miss Elizabeth Hert and Miss Eleanor Williams. Vera Miller won Division 4, Kenneth Allison tied for Division 1, Kathleen Dwyer tied for third in Division 2, earning spots in the state meet along with three local medalists among 12 counties represented.

Judge Flavian A. sentenced Everett Conrad after a recount in Dubois. The court upheld Conrad’s victory over Cave in the previous election for a local post, increasing the majority by 22. The case questioned whether Conrad’s primary petition was legally signed by 10 voters in the township. Judge Seal ruled the petition valid and Conrad’s dance for two days appears noted.
Dr Jack McKittrick a local young physician was reported improved today at the Indianapolis hospital after a serious illness. The ambulance conveyed him to the capital hospital where physicians diagnosed the ailment as non fatal and not critical. He will remain hospitalized for two or three days for observation and care.
Two unmasked bandits held up the Lou Smith Restaurant at West Main at 10 15 PM on Saturday taking about $12 in cash while patrons were herded to the wall. They fled in a stolen car later traced to Vincennes as police seek suspects.
Mayor Hugh G. Cox will address the Civilian Conservation Corps anniversary program at CCC Co. 559 on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o clock. Tours start at 1 15 with soil conservation demonstrations and tours supervised by Lt. Oliver O Dixon.

A pilot set a new record for light planes this afternoon, flying a small craft after leaving Burbank, California, exactly 23 weeks after a prior start.
The Rotary Club will host a free Easter party and show for all Washington children next Saturday at 10. The program features a feature film, comedies, cartoons, and newsreel.
