Mule Barn Fire Claims Old Mule and Losses

A barn belonging to Joe Shouse and Chris Melker in South Washington burned at 6 o clock in the morning. An old mule valued at 25 dollars perished in the flames, with the hero worth 100 dollars and about 25 dollars of hay feed and harness destroyed. The origin is unknown though suspected incendiary, possibly accidental fire from a match or cigar. The fire damaged fodder and spread to the barn. suspicion exists but is unproven. Nearby a train delay and a separate incident report follow.

County board orders drainage relief for western city

Proceedings show Dr A J Donaldson secretary of the county board of health and Jobo Nugent discuss relief from backwater caused by poor drainage. A new ditch along the B and O Southwestern line is planned with an estimated cost under 200. The case may go to circuit court. A temporary courthouse room remodelling by William Herndon will cost under 100. The measures aim to relieve malaria and disease in spring and summer.
