Poems and prayers from 1857 recount a spiritual scene on a hillside as a group prays to God. The verse speaks of trials ending in heavenly light and rest, trust in God, and friends in Heaven. Erasmus remarks that even an atheist would proclaim there is God after witnessing the scene.
Erasmus King leads six companions across Illinois prairies toward the Mississippi fringe. As darkness falls they crest a prairie mound and gaze upon a vast, awe inspiring western panorama, realising the grandeur of nature and the Creator.
The young explorers travel from a eastern city in search of new discoveries. Erasmus spots a beautiful prairie and a lone rider, a graceful woman, near a sparkling stream before returning to camp as night approaches. The riverbank shelter and wildlife echo a mix of danger and wonder in their journey west.
Judge Ross plans a move west for land for his large family and son’s future. Laura Ross, young and sad, rides to revive health and meets Erasmus, the man she loves. In a desperate encounter with a panther, Erasmus saves Laura, is wounded, but they unite with a lifelong pledge of love and marriage.
Erasmus hears a scream and a galloping horse near a rugged bank. He sees a frightened rider pursued by a wild beast tearing at the mare and bleeding. He acts to rescue Ler from the peril in the wood.
Three exclusive facsimiles exist of the Tre Green Stove, owned by Lord Ellsemere and Mr. Corcoran, with a third once drawn by a Cosmopolitan Art Association member and sold in New York for $6,000. The purchaser is the same association, which plans a gin prize for distribution and will return the piece to Cincinnati, the bureau’s base, prompting who will claim it next.
The Cincinnati Gasette states Ohio has 2,800 miles of railroad built at about 90 million dollars. The network employs roughly 30,000 men, operates 600 locomotives and 5,000 cars, and consumes 250,000 cords of wood annually.

The interview ends with a tender gift and a kiss as the dungeon door closes, signaling their parting on this earth. Writs of Shakespeare Milton and Napoleon are shown at Doctors Commons London. Shakespeare’s will contains a self penned interline about giving his wife the second best bed. Milton’s is nuncupative taken by his daughter. Napoleon’s codicil written late shows his frail state.

The Vicksburg Times reports that on the 27th alt. Deputy Marshal attempted to arrest Robert Puckett in Yazoo City. Puckett raised a stick and was shot by the marshal, dying instantly. the coroner's inquest found the deputy justified.

The Mobile Tribune reports large fine peaches have sold in the streets for fifteen cents each for several days. The writer invites Mobile residents to buy locally, noting a basket could be cheaper than two peaches in the sister city. Fresh grapes and other seasonal luxuries are also available.
