Man Killed by Train Near Broadway in Washington

John Warne a well known Washington figure, a deaf and dumb man about forty five, died after being struck by a Morris and Beatx passenger train while walking along Broadway railroad tracks. He suffered severe injuries and died before reaching the depot. The tragedy prompted memorial services and a formal local response including proclamations and a funeral arrangement.

Desperate Cong at Work in Phillipsburg Burglary Attempt

A bold gang of ex convicts from Phillipsburg attempted a deadly entry on Lew Levine's home in Junction late Monday. The intruders attacked the Levine family with knives and revolvers. Mrs Levine and their daughter suffered serious injuries while the father struggled to defend them. The attackers fled as neighbors arrived. police linked the crime to ex convicts recently seen in the area. A second break in, at Crater's blacksmith shop, yielded tools and weapons, suggesting a planned second hit. Authorities suspect the Phillipsburg group planned to blow open the store and the residence with explosives, then escape toward the railroad.
