Sugar control to stop as board ends office year
The United States Sugar Equalization Board advises President Wilson that continuation of government sugar control into next year is too late. The board will go out of office December 37. About 1,000,000 tons of the new Cuban crop has been sold mainly to foreign buyers at about 6.5 cents a pound. Last year the board bought over 3,500,000 tons at 5.5 cents. Refiners may buy remaining Cuban crop as unsold stock exceeds 2,350,000 tons. Also noted a robbery case in New York involving Fred Ferguson harming a man on a trip to the city.
