Orrville bank closed by Comptroller order amid run
The First National Bank of Orrville Ohio was closed by the Comptroller of the Currency after a four day run. George T. Cutts, a national bank examiner, was named receiver. Leon J. Alcorn of Smithville Ohio, cashier at Orrville, is tied to the Smithville bank which paused operations Tuesday, and this connection is blamed for the run. Alcorn says Smithville will honor all deposits dollar for dollar and links Orrville’s troubles to a receiver appointment for Bread Rolling Railway Co. of Cleveland, in which he has financial and managerial interest. The bank’s last condition report lists resources and liabilities including loans and discounts at 28,316, U S bonds at 8,250, other securities 88,353, cash, deposits, and related items totaling 493,724.
