Disintegration of Party A Virginian's View on Democracy's Downfall
A Vir ginian critic argues the Democratic party has outlived usefulness. He cites 1884 West Virginia governors, Kentucky Goebel era, Missouri shifts, and a general move to Republican strength. He claims machine politics corrupt primaries and risks widespread voter abstention in November. He says Virginia’s race for governor is open while Democrats follow West Virginia and Missouri into decline. The piece contends national Democratic leaders rely on machines over personal integrity and cites three Democratic governors winning amid cross party support. The critic warns Democrats cannot escape accountability for their decline.
