Gettysburg Park Plan Favored Over Capital Artwork
The Gettysburg national military park commission prefers dedicating the Lincoln Memorial Highway from Washington to the battlefield and the park’s 1930s completion plan over creating a work of art in the Capital. Foreign officers praise the Gettysburg field work while urging similar battlefield marking abroad. The site features include 1,208 monuments, 787 bronze statues, 59 granite statues, 385 mounted cannons, and 37 iron tablets with positions from both Union and Confederate forces treated equally.
