Home Rule for Ireland: Redmond Rejects Self-Government Makework
John Redmond, leader of the Irish party in the House of Commons, warned in Grange, Limerick, that only a full home rule bill with a freely elected parliament and an executive responsible to it would satisfy the Irish people. He said he and his colleagues had not been consulted on any proposed “administrative home rule” plan and would not accept makeshift measures. The government reportedly plans a self-government bill next year, but Redmond insisted on a complete measure.
