Pearls Deteriorate When Jewels Are Not Worn
A London Mail report cites Mesars Asprey & Co noting pearls lose luster and turn dull or nearly black when locked away. Pearls kept on the necks may retain glow for decades, while lack of wear accelerates aging. Light and air likely drive deterioration more than personal influence. Resuscitation methods exist but pearls do die without regular use.
