McCall Defends Handling of New York Life Funds
John A. McCall, president of New York Life, testified about drawing checks on the company account without finance committee approval. He claimed many transfers to Andrew Hamilton were advances for real estate and mortgage plans, with disputed uses and eventual charges to various accounts. He pledged personal responsibility for the $235,000 involved and denied improper use. Insurance commissioners from several states planned a joint New York investigation of three firms.
