Operator Foils Yeggs In Hyattsville Postoffice Raid
A bold morning attempt to blow open the Hyattsville post office safe was foiled when Chesapeake and Potomac operator Barry McCormick woke from a cot, drew a pistol, and forced four masked men to retreat as they tried to blast the safe. He alerted local help and a touring car with arms arrived, but the yeggs escaped. Similar heist at Macon, Georgia, saw $2700 cash, plates, two diamonds, notes, and mortgages taken after blasting a store door with nitroglycerin.
