Belasco's Great Divide opens with mixed reviews

Belasco's The Great Divide opened badly with many redundancies and inconsistent tone. William V. Moody's melodrama features Henry Miller Ara and Esther Anglin in key roles, with Laura Hope Crews and Charles Gotthole delivering solid performances. The plot follows a violent man who abducts a woman, bargains with a Mexican for a necklace, and later reconciles with his wife as the curtain falls. The Chicago University author shows literary influences but the drama largely appeals to the actors rather than the script.
