New York Sept 3 John W Cartes president of the Union Trust Company, once famed as Southern banking king, died by his own hand at a Grand hotel. He had been in poor health for months due to nervous prostration from overwork and recent financial turmoil. He left a sanitarium days earlier and was last seen at the Waldorf. His body was found in a hotel room with a razor nearby. he had registered under his name and had recently traveled south for recovery.
