British and German Front Lines See Progress in Sept 12 Reports

Official dispatches from London and Berlin describe Allied advances in the Havrin court sector with English troops capturing Trescault and gains east and north of it. Germans Plan to Defend Old Hindenburg Positions

London reports that on the British front the Germans intend to defend their old Hindenburg line while possibly establishing a stronger back line around Doura Cambrai and St Quentin. Since July 14 they shortened the front by about 70 miles, saving 30 to 49 divisions, with resistance and counterattacks expected to continue amid reconstruction of communications and heavy British shelling.

Two New Staff Offices Created by Gen Pershing

American Headquarters in France reports General Pershing has created the offices of chief of the infantry and chief of the cavalry on his staff. Nomination for the positions is not yet made. Duties include advising on arms and fire service matters, inspecting organizations, training, equipment, and methods, and preparing details for training unit instruction.
