Low Rates to Stand for Alexandria Fare Cut Denied

The Interstate Commerce Commission denied the Washington Southern Railway's request to raise the Washington Alexandria fare to 50 cents to curb passengers buying cheap Alexandria to Richmond through tickets. The decision also blocked a 20 cent Potomac Bridge toll and other fare schemes, with one exception allowing current rates between Atlanta and Chattanooga to continue. The ruling keeps a 2.85 fare path via Alexandria for travelers bound to Richmond and limits on through fares.
