Association Ends Talk of Launching Baseball War
Chicago, Sept. 7. Minor league magnates with President Thomas M. Chivington withdrew their petition to the national commission, ending talk of a war over rating changes. The petition sought a higher draft price and one player from each club, but with no support from Southern and Eastern leagues the effort collapsed. The American Association will renew the old agreement, extended to Sept. 10, as negotiations resume.

Americans Are Favorites In International Tennis Matches
New York on September 7 reports practice for Britain's lawn tennis team on the east side courts. American observers show heavy betting in favor of the Yankees for next week's match. Dixon and Beamish of Britain played doubles with Larned and Hackett of the United States. The Britons showed depth but were slower to net and relied on deep drives, while the Americans moved well and frequently netted. The international matches open Saturday with two singles events and seating for 4,50 spectators. A drawing tomorrow will determine match order and player positions.
