Abbot Gasquet aims to revise the Latin Bible in America
Abbot Gasquet, head of the Pope's commission to revise the Vulgate, arrived in New York for a six month stay. Under Knights of Columbus sponsorship he will lecture across the United States and Canada to fund the work. He cites the Clementine edition of 1592 as error ridden and notes his panel has worked since 1901, pursuing a Jerome edition. He discusses English religious shifts, predicts a future split between Roman Catholics and Protestant thinkers, cites Chesterton’s nearing conversion, and outlines his background and scholarly works.
