Young Woman Commits Suicide in Kansas City Cathedral

Miss Nettie I Brown aged twenty five daughter of D C Brown of Lincoln Nebraska killed herself in a Catholic cathedral by carbolic acid. She came to Kansas City about three weeks ago and stayed at a leading hotel then another first class hotel without funds she sent for her guardian in Omaha but received no aid. After services she remained in church after others left and was found dead in a pew.

Defiance Ohio October 28 fire gutted Trowbridge Hall the women’s dormitory at Defiance College destroying the west end and forcing fifty six students to jump from windows. Two Braffton Ohio girls aided by clothing tied from radiator to escape. Surgical treatment for injuries. Building dedicated only a year ago as a gift from Lyman Trowbridge. College to rebuild at once with heavy losses to students and contents uninsured.

Fire Destroys Warehouse in Eutaw Alabama

A severe blaze in Eutaw destroyed the eastern half of Planters' Warehouse and Commission Company. Estimated property loss runs from 75000 to 100000 dollars. The warehouse held 200 to 3000 bales of cotton, with about 25 bales on the western side and 500 bales on the adjoining platform saved. About 500 bales may be insured. No origin determined but suspected accidental fire.

Troops To Overawe Utes In Wyoming Drive

Omaha dispatch reports four troops of the Tenth Cavalry, totaling 765 officers and men, leaving Fort Robinson to pursue a band of renegade Utes at Powder River. Plunder Hidden After City Robbery in Petrograd

Hoar’s Life Ebbs Fast in Worcester, Congressman Grievously Ill

Worcester, Oct 28 Congressman Hackworth Hoar’s condition remained very grave tonight with fears he may not survive. Doctors issued a bulletin reporting his condition as serious and fluctuating after a brief improvement when the operation continued, but he grew weaker again by nightfall.

Miss Osten of East Orange aged twenty three was shot in a Broadway cab by Louis R. Brown after a quarrel over marriage. Brown, twenty one, was arrested after attempting suicide but was stopped by a policeman. The bullet struck the woman near the cheek. she lies in Roosevelt Hospital in critical condition. Brown and Osten come from prominent families. a letter found on Brown was turned over to authorities.

Embalmed Baby Found in Suitcase in Philadelphia

A six month old girl's embalmed body was found in a dress suitcase at Adams Express office in Philadelphia. Inspectors, aided by Newark authorities, traced the case to July and to an address that does not exist, noting rats had exposed the contents. Anarchists Under Bond In McKinley Case
