Cotton Ginners Report Delay Sparks Crooked Dealing Charges

Delays in releasing the Census Bureau ginning report from 12 to 2 pm provoked rumors of manipulation. North denied any misconduct, noting the program was completed under tight secrecy and that returns from field agents were incomplete at 2 pm. The report showed U.S. ginning up to Oct 15 at 4,910,725 bales, with state by state tallies and comparisons to prior years.

Hearing in coal case before Supreme Court

The Supreme Court heard the Interstate Commerce Commission case against New York New Haven and Hartford and Chesapeake and Ohio Railroads. Chesapeake and Ohio is charged with granting a rebate to New York and New Haven for 2,000,000 tons of Virginia coal from 1897 to 1902 at 32% per ton.
