Secret Society Case Argued Over Disqualification to Sit
The national council of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics sues the District of Columbia council to stop use of the name and from doing business in DC. It claims the State council forfeited its charter by not paying per capita tax, and the national body says the local charter was revoked amid a broader dispute. Justice Wright heard three days of argument with Justices Anderson and Gould recused due to prior membership. The suit seeks to restrain the local body from using the name and conducting business in the district.
