Harding Promises Merchant Ship Aid and Policy
The President pledged aid for merchant ships and pledged to sustain North Atlantic port routes with regular sailings. Shipowners opposed privatizing the fleet to a few large firms, warning of monopolistic risks and urging strict enforcement of the Jones Act. Brown about department reorganizations, and he met Marion supporters James F. Pendergast, Orley Rapp, and Charles Schroeder.
