Held for Forgery in Clarkson Will Case
Howard G. Clarkson faced a preliminary hearing on forgery charges for signing his wife’s name to a will that allegedly made him sole beneficiary of a $4 000 estate. He was held on $1 000 bail after witnesses Frank M. and Jennie M. Howard testified the signature was a crude forgery and that witnesses were attested after Mrs Clarkson’s death. The defense argued the instrument was invalid and no crime existed, while Justice Gould in probate court suggested relatives confer with the district attorney. The judge refused probate of the will.
