Aldermen sent the invitation to show confidence and arrange transport from along the Southern Railroad built by Walsh. The event aims to draw thousands for the community reception. Fare details include Harpers Ferry Martinsburg 1.00 Berkeley Springs 2.55 Cumberland 2.68 and return with a Sunday October 2 special on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroads departing Union Station at 8 35 a m.

Special to The Washington Post Pittsburgh Oct 18 Two automotive crashes within a quarter hour in Elizabeth show one child dead and another badly hurt. A five year old, Jacob Pollack Jr., was killed by a car owned by Dr Matthew Reed of Clairton. George Russell 11, son of William Russell, sustained internal injuries from a car owned by Dr A A Peterson of Elizabeth.
Chicago reports Mexy a hairless dog living with Dr. Henri Grosser of 934 La Salle avenue. The dental student treated the dog’s toothache after rescuing him from the Anticruelty Society refuge. Mexy tolerated the procedure and the work proceeded.
Leavenworth Kansas October 18 Captain Winfield B Carr of the Army Service School at Fort Leavenworth was found dead by a maid in his quarters. It is believed he shot himself late last night or early this morning. An army revolver with one empty chamber was found near the body. Carr was to marry Miss Jeannette Frances Clark daughter of Maj and Mrs Charles C Clark of Fort Sheridan. The engagement had been denied as broken by Miss Clark’s mother Chicago October 18.
Father Saye Ha identified a burglar rifling his clothing as his son Charles C. Combs a former Maiden policeman. In Borton Ontario the 24 year old denied the charge while the elder Combs insisted he entered the house and the son was held in police court.
Cyrus Collis aged 16 fought off a gigantic American gray eagle on the Rutherford farm near Martinsburg West Virginia. After the bird swooped and forced him back, he struck it with a stone and then killed it with a club. The eagle measured over seven feet across the wings and was the first of its species seen in years in the area.
New York Oct 18 Miss Helen Smith was not called as a witness in her own defense in the suit by Russell Griswold to recover 50000 for breach of promise. The trial ended abruptly with the jury given the case and a sealed verdict ordered after 4 pm.
